S2 E14: Into the Wilderness with God

Numbers 1-21.
When God wants to train his people, he often brings them into the wilderness. What was meant to be a few week trip from Egypt to the Promised Land, turned into 40 years of training, trials, and testing in order for the people of God to walk in faith and trust in God. God always requires active faith to walk in the fullness of life. This was true of them and it is true of us today.

What if the part of Scripture that most of us glance over actually shows the heart of God and a shadow of Christ? The Law of the Old Testament can be confusing and feel odd at times. Why couldn't they eat pork? Why so many rules if this is all about a relationship? Is the Christian supposed to follow them today? And yet, within the Law and Leviticus we see the heart of God to love and lead his people and ultimately make a way where their was no way. See what the Law and Leviticus meant for them and even what it means for us today.

What comes to your mind when you think about God? Whatever that is says more about you than you realize. The ancient Hebrews had spent 400 years under a cultural and theological script that made God out to be something he is not. As God has redeemed his people, he now reveals to his people more fully who he truly is.

The Exodus event was the most important moment in the history of Israel. It was when the family of God truly became a nation under God. This will be the moment that God's people would continually look back on as their story of redemption. In it, we see a shadow of our own salvation story in Christ as he ushers in the true and final Exodus from our slavery to sin.

S2 E10: Love and Strength

Exodus 5-11.
The exodus event is a spectacle of God's love and strength. He is loving enough to want to save his people and strong enough to do so. God goes through great lengths to reveal these two aspects of himself. In this episode, we look at the beginning of the exodus event and see the strength and love of God combine as he frees his people from slavery. This same strength and love is seen all the more fully with Jesus on the cross as God saves us from our own sin and slavery.

S2 E5: The Sacrifice of God

Genesis 22.
What does true trust look like? Looking at the climax of the Abraham story, we see God testing Abraham with the (near) sacrifice of Isaac. At this point in the journey, Abraham has been walking with God for years and is clearly a changed man. But what does he (and we) do when God ask us to do the hardest of all things? Will we trust him even when what he asks does not make sense? The hope of this episode is for us to see the heart and character of God, who ultimately makes the greatest sacrifice on our behalf in his Son, Jesus.
