"Jesus is holding together the situation, the soldiers, and even the nails in his hands. Nobody took his life. He laid it down."
 
In Mark 14 and 15, Jesus undergoes two different trials: one from the Jews, one from the Gentiles. This is meant to show us that the entire world has brought charges against God. And they collectively declare the same thing: guilty and worthy of death.

"The object of the Father's greatest love is about to become the object of his greatest wrath."
 
In Mark 14, we witness the final night of Jesus's life before his crucification. Jesus will reset and restory his disciples back to the heart of God and the mission of the messiah. Here we see the deep relationship Jesus has with both his followers and ultimately his Father. So let's pull up a seat at the Lord's table and see what he has to say.

"If I had to summarize the end times according to Scripture I would say, (1) tribulation will come (2) stay alert because (3) Jesus is coming back."
 
In Mark 13, Jesus is asked about the signs for the end of the age. Mixing short term and long term prophecy, Jesus walks through what life in a broken world will look and feel like. Although easy to get lost in the nuance and debates, the main charge for them (and for us) is to stay alert because Jesus is coming back.

In Mark 12, Jesus will be questioned by every single religious group of the day. Jesus not only avoids their traps, but reveals the heart of God in the process. By the end, he will show the downline of those who use people for their own power, and those who use their power for people.

In Mark 11, the prince of peace enters the city of peace riding an animal of peace to accomplish the ultimate peace. Mark 11 is the beginning of the last week in the life of Jesus. Everything slows down as an invitation to us to lean in. God is entering into his city with his people... and he has something to say.

"Blessed are those who are radically dependent, because that leads to radical grace."
 
In Mark 10, Jesus continues his conversation with the disciples over what it truly means to be a disciple. Using children as an example of childlike faith, Jesus will turn their worldview (and ours) upside down to see the world the way God does.
This episode begins with a lengthy discussion on Mark 10:1-12. Here Jesus responds to a question about divorce. For those who have divorce in their story, our prayer is for you to see the tenderness and love of Jesus as he brings humanity back to created intent. All divorce is a product of brokenness. Jesus has come to heal our brokenness, redeem our stories, and reconnect us back to himself. He is working in your life and even when you don't see it, he sees you, loves you, and is with you.

"The more we embrace the identity of Jesus, the more we are invited into the activity of Jesus."
 
Mark 9 is the turning point in the gospel of Mark. Once the disciples embrace the person of Jesus, they are invited into the purpose of Jesus. As Jesus invites his followers to embrace the mission of the Messiah, he also prepares them for their own mission. In order to be true disciples of Jesus, they must love as he loves, lead as he leads, as they come to Jesus with a childlike (not childish) faith and dependency. This is what true greatness is.
