Where in the story | God's Persistence: Daniel 7
"When we see Jesus this way, we see him as bigger than anything we can reduce him down to. When we see Jesus for who he truly is, we fall down in worship. When we see Jesus, we see what our hearts long for and were made for."
Welcome to one of the most important chapters in your Bible: Daniel 7. Here we see a window into heaven and God's culminative plan for all of human history. This is a big one!

S4 E9: Faith in Exile

Monday Jun 23, 2025

Monday Jun 23, 2025

Where in the story | God's Persistence: The book of Daniel
"In the story, it is not God who is throwing people into the fire, but rather he is the one who enters into the fire on our behalf."
As the people of God are in exile, we see only a few faithful followers of God left. The book of Daniel highlights three different stories of these men and their allegiance to God no matter the outcome. In this episode we explore each of these stories as examples of what it looks like to walk in faithfulness in a culture that is far from God. Ultimately, we see Jesus as the true faithful follower in his own exile on the cross.

Where in the story | God's Persistence: Ezekiel
"It is not lost on the LORD when I am not being loved or lead well. He sees. He knows. He will take care of it."
The Spirit leaves. The sheep are scattered. The savior is yet to come. The prophet Ezekiel gives us a window into God's heart for his people, even when his people are rejecting God and are taken into captivity. When nothing seems to be going right in the story (or your story), God's hand is still guiding and directing by his Spirit as our savior and good shepherd.

Where in the story | God's Persistence: Jeremiah and the fall of Judah
"Our hearts long for assurance in this life. So God gives us promises rooted in himself. Our assurance is rooted in a relationship."
What do we do in the gap between promises made and promises kept? We either fill the gap with doubt or trust. God is a promise making and keeping God. And yet, in this moment in the story of Scripture, the promises feel the furthest away. So God invites his people to trust in a new promise and a new hope that is rooted in a God who cannot (and will not) break his word.

Where in the story | God's Persistence: Isaiah and Hezekiah
"The only way to go from condemnation to comfort is when a righteous King enters into the story."
Moving now to the southern kingdom of Judah, we look at Isaiah and Hezekiah. Isaiah will begin with prophecies of condemnation, but will end with prophecies of comfort. What changed? A righteous King interceded to the LORD on the people's behalf. Sound familiar? In this episode we look at the book of Isaiah and the reign of King Hezekiah, a righteous King and shadow of our true King, Jesus.

Where in the story | God's Persistence: Obadiah, Jonah, Amos, Hosea (Prophets to the Northern Kingdom)
"In order for God to heal us, he has to hone in on the very part of our lives we are trying to hide."
God teaches in two ways: experientially and explicitly. As the story unfolds, God has largely been teaching his people through experiencing his love (and what life is like when they reject it). Now, God turns up the explicit communication by speaking through prophets. When seen individually, these prophets have a lot to say to God's people. But when seen all together, we get a central message from God to them (and to us today).

Where in the story | God's Persistence: 1 Kings and the main moments in the life of Elijah
"Sometimes you need a rally from God. Sometimes you need rest in God. Only God knows what you truly need. Because what you truly need is him."
Journey with us as we see the ups, downs, and final outcome of Elijah's life and ministry.  In Elijah's life, we see our own. All of us will have successes and set-backs in life. And yet, it is our God who navigates us in the green pastures and the dark valleys. He is holding our hand whether we need a rally from him or rest in him. Because in the end, we really just need him.

Where in the story | God's Persistence: 1 Kings 12 and the Sins of Jeroboam.
"We are products of good leaders we are trying to mimic and bad leaders we are trying to avoid."
In this episode we explore the downline of good and not so good leadership. Looking at the beginning of the divided Kingdom of God's people, we see two terrible leaders: Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Both will mimic the worst of Solomon and both will leave a wake of hurt behind them.
What do you do when faced with two poor choices in leadership?
How do you mimic good leaders and avoid mimicking bad leaders?
How do you mimic bad leaders?
We are all a product of those around us. So let's listen in as we are restoried back to how we love and lead others as God loves and leads us.
