The Rest of God

BONUS EPISODE: Rest of God Sermon
"Biblical rest is not about relaxation. It is about releasing everything over to God. When we come to Jesus, he gives us the supernatural ability to let go of everything we carry as we receive from him everything we need."
There is often confusion between relaxation and rest. Many who solely seek relaxation in an evening, on the weekend, or over a break, wonder by the end why they are more tired then when they started. Relaxation has its place, but it's different than Biblical rest.
 
Here is a message Derek gave recently about God's invitation for us to enter more fully into the rest God offers. By entering more fully into the rest of God, we experience more deeply the rest of God, the aspects of God that can only be received when striving ceases. So take a listen and reflect on what it looks like for you today to enter into the rest of God.

March Update

We have just completed the first part of season five of Storyverse Podcast. So far we have looked at the mosaic, the man, the message, and the mission of Jesus Christ.
Before we jump into part two, we have a few special episodes coming your way including an interview with singer/ songwriter Sarah Schmidt, a message on rest (just in time for Spring Break!), a few more podcast updates, and a 7-part devotional leading up to Easter answering the question, "Why did Jesus have to die?"
After Easter we will jump back into the story of Scripture by looking deeply into the gospel of Mark and the gospel of John.

In his death, Jesus shows what true love is, the sacrificial pursuit of the beloved's greatest good. Join us as we explore God's definition of love and how God demonstrates his love for us in Jesus Christ.

S5 E15: Jesus Lived Perfectly

"It’s the sinlessness of Jesus that allows him to sympathize with the sufferer and the save the sinner."
In this episode we look at first part of the three missions of Jesus. Jesus came to live perfectly, die sacrificially, and raise victoriously. In his perfect life, we see not only who God is, but also what we were meant to be. We can now go to Jesus in our struggles, suffering, and sins and know he greets us with his sympathy and salvation.

In Christ, you are now being re-created for the same. This is the gospel of the King, kingdom, and the decisive victory. This is the good news you are made for.

"How does God destroy sin without destroying us? He takes sin upon himself. The object of God's greatest of love becomes the object of his greatest wrath. This is what happened on the cross."
 
In this episode we are looking at the third part of the gospel message. The King will establish his kingdom through a decisive victory. This victory becomes ours when we simply receive it by faith.

S5 E12: The Gospel of the Kingdom

Where in the story |  The Gospels
"Jesus invites us into the upside down kingdom. How do you live? By dying. How do you lead? By serving. How do you be first? By being last. It is only in losing your life that you find the life that you were made for."
In this episode we are looking at the second part of the gospel message. Not only is Jesus the King, but he is establishing his kingdom. This kingdom is not only a future reality, but a present experience he is inviting you into today. The question for us remains, will we reach for the kingdoms of this world or receive the kingdom of God?
